An analysis by the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless shows that 93,780 Chicagoans were homeless in the course of the 2010-11 school year, through June 2011. This is 5.5% more than the 88,923 who were homeless in the prior school year. The Chicago Public Schools identified a record 15,580 homeless students in 2010-11, 97.9% of them children of color. As we head into another holiday season and brace for the cold winter weather, this meeting will address homelessness in Chicago. Recognizing that many legal aid attorneys work with clients who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness, this meeting will also provide information on the basic legal and social services that are available so that you know where to refer clients in need.
